18-karat gold Heuer Carrera watch sold for 227,000 dollars

An 18-karat gold Heuer Carrera chronometer was sold for 225,000 Swiss Francs (227,000 dollars) at a Sotheby’s auction.

The wristwatch with a Calibre 12 Manufacture movement was a gift by Jack Heuer to Swedish Formula One driver Ronnie Peterson.

Back in 1972, the stunning Heuer Carrera, also known as “the race car driver’s watch,” had a list price of 950 Swiss Francs. Its case is engraved with the words “Success Ronnie Peterson from Jack W. Heuer.”

The Heuer Carrera chronometer comes with a gold ingot commemorating the “Prix Rouge et Blanc Joseph Siffert” award Ronnie Peterson won for his performance at the 1972 German Grand Prix at Nürburgring.

Bengt Ronnie Peterson – the “SuperSwede” – ran a total of 123 Formula One World Championship races and won 10 events. He died at 34 after suffering an accident in the 1978 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
