Daniel Christian Tang: 3D-printed jewelry

Toronto-based brand Daniel Christian Tang brought high technology to the field of fine jewelry, transforming 3D prints into signature pieces that celebrate nature, architecture and art. The new Icon collection will be revealed at Toronto Fashion Week.

Daniel Christian Tang was founded by Luca Daniel Lavorato, Mario Christian Lavorato and Heng Tang, and brings a new approach to the jewelry market: 3D-printed luxury jewelry, affordable and eco-friendly, in precious metals and unique shapes of pure artistry.

Heng Tang and Mario Christian Lavorato met while attending the prestigious Masters of Architecture (M.arch) program of the University of Toronto. Their work with digital fabrication and 3D printing sparked the idea of turning the files and designs they created for architecture into wearable pieces of art.

The trio has a diverse background, covering areas like Architecture, Engineering, Biochemistry and Art, and a combined experience of over twenty years in digital fabrication. This mix of skills brings a refreshing perspective and a new approach to luxury jewelry design and production.

The innovative production process at Daniel Christian Tang combines sophisticated mathematical structures, leading architectural software and cutting edge 3D printing technology to create sophisticated and one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry.

The designs are brought to life in precious metals like gold, rose gold, platinum and silver through high-resolution 3 Dimensional Digital Manufacturing Technology. The 3D print is usually shaped from a 3D wax printer, which is used to create a plaster mold.

Once the plaster sets, the wax is melted out and the molten metal is poured into the plaster mold. When the metal hardens, the plaster mold is pulled away to reveal the finished product, which is then carefully polished.

Daniel Christian Tang aims to bring innovation not only to jewelry design and the manufacturing process but to the distribution model as well. The brand claims to deliver a unique aesthetic that is also affordable and eco-friendly, because of their new, non-mass production process.

The collections include rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces with clean and both delicate and intentional lines, fluid shapes and a strong architectural feel.

The Icon collection, which pays an homage to a great architectural design or style in each piece, will be revealed at Toronto Fashion Week, on March 17th 2016.
